This is really just a way to get to the Northern Bay Area using the most direct route. The US-101 can become quite congested during the rush hours on the weekdays. On weekends it also becomes very heavily traveled by people heading up and back from the Wine Country.

Larger recreational vehicles and boats are more prevalent during the weekend.

The worst congestion for traffic occurs from the Marin County border up to Santa Rosa. There still is a great deal of construction being done on the US-101 in the Santa Rosa area. However, North of Santa Rosa everything seems to widen up and the traffic flow becomes much better.
